The California CCW training is designed to provide the student with a basic understanding of the attitude, skills, and knowledge necessary to prepare them for the unexpected encounter for which they might find themselves. This firearms course was designed for the beginner to advanced shooter who is looking to gain the necessary skills to safely protect themselves.

The following topics will be covered in the CCW class, but this is not a comprehensive list as we do our best to tailor the class topics to the needs of the given audience participants.

  • California Laws governing the use of deadly force
  • Firearms and home/vehicle safety
  • Pistol nomenclature and selecting a pistol for self-defense
  • Ammunition knowledge and defensive ammunition selection
  • Basic defensive pistol skills
  • Drawing from concealment
  • Loading and stoppage remediation
  • Defensive mindset and awareness
  • Carry modes and pistol concealment
  • Firearms qualification course

We offer two different CCW courses of different lengths to meet the requirements of different issuing entities. Be sure to check with your issuing entity to verify their training requirement.

8 Hour Renewal Course

The course is approximately 4 hours of classroom work and 4 hours of range time. The time will vary depending on number of students and their ability.

16 Hour Course

The training is approximately 8 hours of classroom work and 8 hours of range time. The time will vary depending on number of students and their ability.

For these 16-hour California CCW classes are approved for Initial applicants:

The two-day class is a more detailed shooting training, and shooting is from the holster.

What to Bring

Please Bring the following items to class:

  • Valid California DMV issued driver’s license or ID
  • Handgun(s)- Revolver or semiautomatic (full-size or compact).  You will need one main training gun, and you must bring all guns with you to both days of class that you want to put on your permit.  There is no additional charge for qualifying with multiple guns.  The State of California requires that the guns you list on your permit be registered to you with the State.
  • Two magazines or one speed-loader (if revolver) for each gun.
  • Ammunition – 350 rounds for main training gun, plus an additional 50 rounds for each additional gun you wish to shoot for qualification testing.
  • Wrap-around eye and electronic hearing protection.
  • We recommend Howard Leight Impact Sport amplified headphones.
  • Notepad and pen (black ink)
  • Baseball cap or visor
  • Sack lunch and personal hydration
  • Closed toe shoes
  • No low-cut necklines please.

You must bring ALL guns and equipment shown above to class.

Please do not bring any ammunition into the classroom. Handguns must be unloaded and cased.

DO NOT BRING ANY AMMO INTO THE CLASSROOM – LEAVE IT IN YOUR VEHICLE TRUNK!

You must start the application process before taking any training.  Each county/city has different requirements as to when you can start the training process.  When issuing Concealed Carry Weapon licenses in California, the Sheriff and his staff must follow strict state and local guidelines. This type of background check involves a lot of detail, so appointment times and processing times can sometimes take multiple weeks. In order to secure a Concealed Carry Weapon license, an interview appointment will be scheduled during the application process.
